The Minneapolis Park and Rec Board spokesperson attributes elevated E. coli levels to heavy rainfall, contaminants washing off the beach, or animal waste. To combat this, some lakes have implemented measures like planting tall grasses to prevent geese access to the water. The good news is that some lakes, such as Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet, have reopened after previously having elevated E. coli levels. However, Playground Beach in Excelsior remains closed, with warning signs in plain view.
