COLONTOWN: Online Support for Colorectal Cancer Patients and Caregivers (2026)

COLONTOWN Expands Patient Support With New Online Space for Colorectal Cancer Care

COLONTOWN, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by colorectal cancer, has recently launched an innovative online platform to enhance patient care and community engagement. This platform offers a comprehensive support system for patients, survivors, and their caregivers, providing a safe and informative space to connect, share experiences, and access valuable resources.

The online community, accessible via mobile and desktop, boasts over 100 private support groups, collectively known as 'neighborhoods'. These neighborhoods cater to various aspects of colorectal cancer, ensuring a personalized and supportive environment for each member.

Here's a breakdown of the platform's key features:

  • Stage and Location-Based Groups: Members can join groups tailored to their cancer stage (I, II, III, IV) and tumor location (colon or rectum). This categorization simplifies the sharing of treatment options and personal experiences based on specific medical needs.
  • Demographic and Life Stage Groups: COLONTOWN offers dedicated groups for young-onset patients, women, men, LGBTQ+ individuals, parents, and military personnel. These groups foster connections among those facing similar challenges, creating a sense of community and understanding.
  • Side Effect Management: The platform provides groups focused on managing treatment-related side effects. For instance, the 'Live Wire' group addresses neuropathy caused by oxaliplatin treatments, offering practical advice and support.
  • Local Support Networks: With over 30 U.S. regional groups and 6 international groups, COLONTOWN facilitates local connections. Members can discuss treatment options in their area or arrange in-person support, fostering a sense of community and shared experience.
  • Clinical Trial Assistance: Nine specialized clinical trial groups offer guidance and support for patients navigating clinical trials. Trained patient navigators provide information and answer questions, while members share their trial experiences and outcomes.
  • Caregiver Support: COLONTOWN recognizes the crucial role of caregivers by offering 'caregiver-only' and 'patient-only' groups. These spaces allow caregivers and patients to find the support they need in a safe and understanding environment.

COLONTOWN also introduces COLONTOWN University, a comprehensive educational resource. This initiative is built upon the collective knowledge and experiences of thousands of colorectal cancer patients and caregivers within the online community. The platform's professional content team, comprising experienced patients and caregivers, creates educational content to inform and support their peers.

Members can access Learning Centers covering topics like CRC 101 for newly diagnosed patients and Clinical Trials Basics for those exploring clinical trial options. Additionally, live Zoom sessions called 'Doc Talks' feature leading colorectal cancer doctors and researchers, providing the latest insights into treatment options and research advancements.

To join COLONTOWN, visit https://colontown.org/join/. Membership is free and open to colorectal cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, regardless of cancer type (colon or rectal).
